Dr. G. P. Desai

Peer Evaluator – India Region

Dr. G.P. Desai is a seasoned academic and professional in the field of Chemical Engineering with a distinguished career spanning over three decades. He holds a Ph.D. from Kuvempu University and both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Karnataka University, Dharwad. His extensive educational background laid a strong foundation for his multifaceted career, which encompasses significant contributions to academia, industry, and research.

Dr. Desai began his professional journey as a Production Chemist at the Crop Development Cooperative Society Ltd. in Hulkoti, Karnataka. This role involved supervising the production and quality control of pesticide formulations. His industry experience was further enriched during his tenure as a Production Manager at the same organization, where he was responsible for overall factory management, including production, quality control, and sales.

Transitioning into academia, Dr. Desai has held various teaching positions, progressing from Lecturer to Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology, Davangere. His academic career is marked by his efforts in establishing and accrediting the department’s laboratories and contributing significantly to the institute's NAAC accreditation. He has been instrumental in developing the Chemical Engineering curriculum and enhancing the academic standards of the department.

Dr. Desai's research interests are diverse and impactful. He has published papers on topics ranging from environmental health to chemical properties and air pollution trends. His research has been presented at numerous national seminars and conferences, underscoring his commitment to addressing critical environmental issues. Notable projects include his role as a Co-Investigator on an AICTE-sanctioned project on water defluoridation and his involvement in the modernization of process simulation laboratories.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Desai is an avid learner and educator. He actively participates in QIP courses and FDPs to stay abreast of the latest developments in his field. His hobbies reflect his diverse interests, including music, English literature, astrology, and sports. Dr. Desai’s dedication to his profession and his wide-ranging interests make him a well-rounded and influential figure in the field of Chemical Engineering.
